Art By Robert Huffman
Robert Huffman grew up in Thurlow, north of Lake Ontario, and has been painting the surrounding countryside for over forty years.
His subjects include the villages and small towns of Eastern Ontario, as well as the bush country of the near north and Algonquin Park.
He has also made painting trips to the East Coast, the Algoma and Georgian Bay areas, as well as the North Shore of Lake Superior.
Originally influenced by the Impressionists and the Canadian Group of Seven, Robert’s paintings are marked by a distinctive personal style, featuring bold use of colour and bravura brush work. A decade of commercial work in Toronto, following study at Ontario College of Art, resulted in a series of silkscreen prints that introduced a graphic element to his paintings. Since the early eighties when he returned to live in rural Ontario, Robert’s paintings have achieved a maturity that continues to attract collectors. Robert has most recently added works in acrylics to his repertoire, enjoying their brilliance of colour and freedom to utilize paint in different ways.
